Get the Plumbing Right Before the Walls Close
A remodel is one of the few times everything behind your walls is accessible — the pipes, the drain lines, the supply connections. It’s the right time to move a drain, upgrade aging supply lines, rough in a new bathroom, or add a sink where there wasn’t one before. Once the drywall goes back up, that opportunity is gone and any fixes become far more expensive.
We handle the full plumbing scope for bathroom remodels, kitchen remodels, basement additions, and new fixture installations throughout Metro East Illinois. We work with homeowners, general contractors, and builders — residential and commercial — and we coordinate our work around the project timeline so other trades aren’t waiting on us.
Priority Plumbing Services is licensed, bonded, and insured in Illinois (License No. 055-045366).
We pull permits where required, rough in to code, and pass inspections the first time. Every remodel job is backed by our 1-year warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Signs You Need a Plumber for Your Remodel
- You're Moving or Adding a Fixture
Moving a toilet, sink, or shower to a new location, or adding one where there wasn’t one before — requires relocating drain lines, supply lines, and vent stack connections. This is licensed plumber work. It needs to be done before framing and drywall go in, and it needs to meet current Illinois plumbing code.
Urgency: Schedule early, rough-in work has to happen before walls close.
- Your Remodel Has Exposed Old or Damaged Pipe
Tearing out an old bathroom or kitchen often reveals galvanized supply lines, cast iron drain lines, or corroded copper that’s been hidden behind walls for decades. A remodel is the ideal time to replace aging pipe while access is open — before new tile, cabinets, and drywall seal it back in.
Â
Urgency: Address before finishing — replacing hidden pipe after a remodel costs far more than doing it during.
- You're Adding a Bathroom to a Basement
A basement bathroom below the main sewer grade requires an ejector pump system in addition to standard drain and supply rough-in. Getting the layout and slope right in a basement bathroom is critical — mistakes here are expensive to fix after concrete is poured.
Â
Urgency: Plan the plumbing before the slab — changes after concrete work are major.
- You're Converting a Tub to a Shower or Vice Versa
A tub-to-shower conversion involves rerouting the drain, modifying supply connections, and potentially moving the valve location. A shower-to-tub conversion adds drain relocation and overflow connections. Both require a licensed plumber to do correctly and pass inspection.
Urgency: Coordinate early in the remodel timeline — drain work happens before tile.
- Your General Contractor Needs a Licensed Plumber on the Project
Most GCs in Metro East Illinois need a licensed, insured subcontractor for the plumbing scope of a remodel. We work with general contractors and coordinate our schedule with the project timeline — showing up when the job is ready for us and not holding up other trades.
Â
Urgency: Get us on the schedule early — plumbing is typically one of the first rough-in trades.
Types of Remodel Plumbing We Handle
- Bathroom Remodel Plumbing
Full bathroom remodel plumbing scope — drain rough-in, supply rough-in, toilet relocation, shower and tub rough-in, vanity and sink connections, and fixture installation at trim-out. We handle both the rough-in phase and the finish phase so you have one plumbing contractor from start to finish.
- Kitchen Remodel Plumbing
Kitchen sink relocation, new garbage disposal installation, dishwasher drain and supply connections, pot filler installation, kitchen faucet upgrades, and supply line replacement behind new cabinets. We coordinate with cabinet and countertop installers so the plumbing connections are ready when needed.
- Basement Bathroom Rough-In
Basement bathroom additions including ejector pump system installation, drain line rough-in, supply line rough-in, and vent connections. We assess your basement sewer grade before work begins to determine the right approach — ejector pump, gravity drain if grade allows, or a combination.
- Rough-In Plumbing for Additions & New Spaces
Adding a laundry room, a wet bar, an outdoor kitchen, or a new bathroom to an existing home requires extending supply and drain lines from your current plumbing system. We assess your existing system capacity, plan the extension correctly, and rough in to code.
Benefits of Hiring a Licensed Plumber for Your Remodel
- Permits and Inspections Done Right
Remodel plumbing in Illinois requires permits for most work involving drain relocation, new fixture rough-ins, or additions to the plumbing system.
Unpermitted plumbing work can delay a home sale, cause insurance claim issues, and create liability if something fails later. We pull the permits, schedule the inspections, and pass them the first time.
- One Less Thing to Coordinate
Remodel projects have enough
moving parts. We show up on schedule, complete our scope without holding up other trades, and communicate directly with your GC if needed. Our goal is to be the plumber your contractor wants to work with again — because that’s how we build long-term relationships in this business.
- Catch Problems While Access Is Open
A remodel exposes what’s been hidden in your walls for years. Corroded supply lines, improperly sloped drain lines, missing cleanouts, and undersized vent stacks are common finds in Metro East Illinois homes — many of which were built between the 1950s and 1980s. Addressing these during a remodel costs a fraction of what it costs after new finishes are in.
- Code-Compliant Work That Holds Up
Remodel plumbing that doesn’t meet current Illinois code fails inspection and has to be redone — at your cost. We know the code, we work to it, and we don’t cut corners because the wall is going to cover it. Every remodel job is backed by our 1-year warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee.
- Residential and Commercial Remodels
We handle remodel plumbing for residential homeowners, rental property owners, and commercial facilities — restaurants adding equipment, offices adding bathrooms, retail spaces undergoing renovation. Licensed, permitted, and built to last regardless of the project type.
What Remodel Plumbing Includes
- Pre-Construction Planning
Before any work starts, we review the remodel plans, assess the existing plumbing system, confirm drain slope and vent requirements, and identify any issues that need to be addressed before rough-in begins. This conversation happens early — before your contractor frames walls or orders tile.
- Rough-In Phase
Drain lines, supply lines, and vent connections installed to the correct locations before walls are closed. We coordinate the rough-in inspection with the municipality so the work is signed off before drywall goes up.
- Trim-Out Phase
Fixture installation — toilets, faucets, showerheads, tub fillers, garbage disposals, dishwasher connections — after tile, cabinets, and drywall are complete. We return for trim-out on projects where we did the rough-in, and we’re also available for trim-out work on projects roughed in by others.
- Written Estimate Before Work Begins
You’ll receive a written estimate covering both the rough-in and trim-out phases before we start. If we encounter unexpected conditions during rough-in — old pipe that needs replacement, drain lines not where the original plans show — we tell you before proceeding.

Remodel Plumbing Questions
Do I need a permit for bathroom or kitchen remodel plumbing?
In most cases, yes, if you’re moving fixtures, adding new ones, or relocating drain or supply lines. The permit requirement varies by municipality, but we pull the permits and handle the inspection process so you don’t have to navigate it yourself.
When should I contact a plumber during a remodel?
Early. Before framing starts if possible. The earlier we’re involved in the project, the better we can plan the plumbing layout, identify any existing conditions that need addressing, and coordinate with your GC. Calling a plumber after walls are framed limits options and can require framing changes.
How much does remodel plumbing cost?
Cost depends on the scope, a bathroom fixture swap runs far less than a full bathroom addition with ejector pump. We provide written estimates covering rough-in and trim-out separately so you have a clear picture of the full plumbing cost before committing. Financing is available through Wisetack for larger remodel projects.
Can you work with my general contractor?
Yes. We work with GCs on remodel and new construction projects throughout Metro East Illinois. We communicate directly, show up on schedule, and complete our scope without holding up other trades. If you’re a GC looking for a reliable licensed plumbing subcontractor in Madison or surrounding counties, call us.
What if the remodel reveals old pipe that needs replacing?
It’s common, especially in Metro East Illinois homes built before 1980. If we open a wall and find galvanized supply lines or deteriorating cast iron drain lines, we document what we find, give you a written estimate for the additional work, and let you decide before we proceed. We never do work you haven’t approved.
Do you handle commercial remodel plumbing?
Yes. Restaurant renovations, office bathroom additions, retail space plumbing upgrades, and commercial kitchen remodels throughout Metro East Illinois. Licensed, permitted, and built to commercial code on every job.
