Drains &
Sewer

Slow drains, clogs, and sewer line problems don’t fix themselves. From drain cleaning to full sewer replacement, we diagnose the root cause and get it flowing again.

Commercial Plumbing

Businesses can’t afford plumbing downtime. We handle everything from backflow testing and maintenance contracts to restaurant drain service and new construction rough-ins.

Water
Quality

If your water smells, tastes off, or leaves buildup on everything — there’s a fix. We install whole-home filtration, water softeners, HALO systems, and treat well water at the source.

Water
Heaters

No hot water is never convenient. We repair, replace, and install both tank and tankless water heaters — usually same day, and always with upfront pricing.

Pumps

Sump pumps, well pumps, ejector pumps — we install, repair, and replace all of them. Don’t wait for a pump failure to become a flooded basement or a dry tap.

Frozen Pipes Don't Stay Frozen, That's the Problem

A frozen pipe that hasn’t burst yet is a window. Once it thaws, on its own, or because the heat comes back on, the pressure that builds up behind the ice finds any weak point in the pipe and blows through it. What was a frozen pipe becomes a burst pipe. What was no water becomes water everywhere.

We respond to frozen and burst pipe emergencies 24/7 throughout Metro East Illinois. If your pipes are frozen and you haven’t had a burst yet, that’s the best time to call, before the thaw does the damage for you. If a pipe has already burst, shut off your main water supply and call (618) 207-1647 immediately.

Priority Plumbing Services is licensed, bonded, and insured in Illinois (License No. 055-045366). Illinois winters are hard on plumbing, especially in older homes with pipes in exterior walls, crawlspaces, and uninsulated utility areas. We know the common failure points and we respond fast. Every emergency job is backed by our 1-year warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Signs Your Pipes May Be Frozen

If you turn on a faucet and nothing comes out, or just a trickle, during or after a period of freezing temperatures, the supply line to that fixture is likely frozen. A single affected fixture points to a localized freeze. No water at multiple fixtures or throughout the whole house points to a freeze at the main line or in a central location.

Urgency: Call today — a frozen pipe that hasn’t burst yet needs attention before it thaws uncontrolled.

Frost on a visible pipe in a basement, crawlspace, garage, or utility area is a direct visual confirmation of freezing. If you can see frost on the outside of a pipe, the water inside is frozen, and the pipe is under stress from expanding ice.

Urgency: Call today — do not attempt to thaw an exposed pipe with an open flame or high heat.

A strange smell coming from a faucet that won’t produce water in winter can indicate a frozen drain vent rather than a supply line. Frozen drain vents cause gurgling, slow drains, and odor backup, a less obvious but real winter plumbing problem.

Urgency: Schedule soon — frozen vents disrupt drainage and can cause sewer gas to back up into the home.

Not every frozen pipe announces itself immediately. If you have known plumbing in exterior walls, a crawlspace, an unheated garage, or an uninsulated utility room, and temperatures have dropped below freezing for an extended period, a proactive check is worth making, especially in older Metro East Illinois homes where insulation in those areas is often minimal.

Urgency: Check proactively during extended cold snaps — the best frozen pipe repair is one that happens before the pipe bursts.

If temperatures have warmed up and you notice a new water stain on a ceiling or wall, water dripping from a fixture connection, or dampness around a pipe location, a frozen pipe likely burst during the freeze and is now thawing and leaking. Shut off your main water supply and call us immediately.

Urgency: Call immediately — shut off the main and call (618) 207-1647.

Types of Frozen Pipe Service We Handle

Safe, controlled thawing of frozen supply lines using appropriate methods, no open flames, no excessive localized heat that can damage pipe or surrounding materials. We identify the freeze location, thaw the pipe safely, and inspect for damage before restoring water service.

When a frozen pipe has already burst, the freeze is over, the repair begins. We locate the burst section, isolate it, and make the repair. In most cases the damaged section is cut out and replaced the same visit. We restore water service to the rest of the home as quickly as possible while the repair is made.

After a freeze event, we can assess which areas of your home are vulnerable to future freezing, exposed pipe in exterior walls, crawlspace lines, garage plumbing, and outdoor hose bibs. We identify what needs insulation, heat tape, or pipe rerouting to reduce freeze risk going into the next Illinois winter.

Outdoor hose bibs and frost-free spigots are among the most common freeze casualties in Metro East Illinois homes. A frost-free spigot that wasn’t fully drained before winter, or that had a hose left attached, can freeze and crack the supply pipe inside the wall. We repair and replace outdoor spigots and the interior pipe sections they connect to.

Benefits of Fast Frozen Pipe Response

The damage from a frozen pipe happens at thaw, not during the freeze. A pipe that’s frozen and intact can often be addressed with controlled thawing and no repair needed. A pipe that was frozen, thawed uncontrolled, and burst requires emergency repair and potentially flood remediation. Calling us when the pipe is frozen, before any thawing, is the best possible outcome for your home and your wallet.

Improperly thawing a frozen pipe, with a torch, a heat gun applied too close, or boiling water, can damage the pipe, melt surrounding materials, or create a fire hazard. We thaw frozen pipes correctly so the repair doesn’t become a bigger emergency. If the pipe is already compromised, we catch it during the thaw process rather than after.

Frozen pipe calls spike during Illinois cold snaps, we know that and we plan for it. We prioritize emergency frozen and burst pipe calls and aim for same-day response throughout our Metro East Illinois service area even during high-volume winter weather periods. Call early in the day when possible for the fastest response.

A freeze event that caused one problem often reveals others waiting to happen. After we handle the immediate repair, we can identify other at-risk pipe locations, crawlspace plumbing, exterior wall supply lines, uninsulated utility runs, and recommend what to address before the next Illinois winter hits.

Vacant commercial spaces, storage areas, loading docks, and any commercial building with plumbing in unheated zones are all freeze risks. A burst pipe in a commercial facility overnight or over a holiday weekend can cause significant damage before anyone notices. We respond to commercial frozen pipe emergencies on the same 24/7 basis as residential.

Frozen Pipe Questions

What should I do right now if I think my pipes are frozen?

Keep the heat on in your home and open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls to let warm air reach the pipes. Turn the affected faucet on slightly, even a trickle flowing can help prevent a burst as the pipe begins to thaw. Do not use an open flame or high-heat device to thaw the pipe yourself. Call (618) 207-1647 and we’ll assess the situation and get there.

Pipes in uninsulated or exterior locations can begin to freeze when outdoor temperatures drop below 20°F and stay there for several hours. Pipes inside heated homes rarely freeze unless they run through an unheated space, a crawlspace, an exterior wall cavity with poor insulation, an attached garage, or an unheated utility room. Metro East Illinois regularly sees conditions that put these locations at risk during January and February.

Shut off the main water supply as a precaution, if the pipe bursts during thawing, you want to limit how much water is released. Keep the faucet the pipe feeds open slightly so pressure can escape as the ice thaws. Keep the rest of the home heated normally. Call us and we’ll get there before the pipe thaws on its own.

Shut off your main water supply valve immediately, this stops the water. If you don’t know where it is, it’s typically near the water meter or where the main line enters the basement or utility area. Once the water is off, call (618) 207-1647. Move electronics and valuables away from water if it’s safe to do so. We’ll handle the rest.

Sudden accidental burst pipe damage is typically covered under standard homeowner’s insurance policies. Frozen pipe bursts generally qualify as sudden and accidental, but document everything with photos before any cleanup begins and call your insurer promptly. We provide documentation of the pipe failure and repair to support your claim.

The most effective steps are insulating pipes in unheated areas, keeping your home above 55°F even when vacant, disconnecting and draining outdoor hoses before freeze season, and letting faucets on exterior walls drip slightly during extreme cold snaps. We can assess your home’s vulnerable pipe locations after any repair and give you specific recommendations for your setup.
